A $20 million casino deployment was pronounced this week by Potawatomi Tribe as the most prominent enterprise of the Forest County and one that ensures to recoup most of the county outlays, as well as generate more employment opportunities.
The new Northern Lights Casino will offer a full suit of games including 16 tables for roulette, blackjack, craps and 500 slot machines, all within a spacious facility, which will comprise a separate room, allotted solely to the poker game; sports lounge with a bigger bingo hall and food services. Approximately 250 employees will be hired and additional 100 hotel and casino workers are expected to join the staff. The construction is estimated to take no longer than a year.
Yet, not everything went so smooth for the tribe. The state Supreme Court did not support, to say the least, the compact signed between the Potawatomi and Gov. Jim Doyle, last year. According to that agreement, in exchange for a higher annual payments to the state, the tribe would receive a full authority over the roulette, craps and poker casino gaming. The tribal spokesman noted, that another attempt of $240 million casino deployment at Milwaukee casino fell flat due to legal entanglements involving the gamut of gambling in Wisconsin and its allegedly dubious agreement with the state.
