It is the third attempt in 15 years that the Seminole Tribe of Florida has initiated negotiations over deployment of gambling on reservations. The tribal leaders are pushing for Class III casino gambling such as roulette, blackjack and craps hoping to get Vegas-style slot machines, as well.
The first two attempts have ended in lawsuits entanglements and ultimate fiasco, with Lawton Chiles, occupying the Governor position at that time. Tribal leaders have high hopes that Broward County voters, who’ve voted for slots at racetracks and jai-alai frontons, have opened the venue for Las Vegas forms of gambling such as roulette, blackjack and others, where gamblers can vie against the house.
This, however, counters the principles of Gov. Jeb Bush, who works in opposite direction trying to eliminate gambling in Florida all together. The governor maintained that gambling proliferation trends are jeopardizing the nation and will fight for termination of thin process. The prospects are that the governor will not provide the tribe with rights to operate gambling on their land outside South Florida, by which balking the opportunity for expanded casino games as roulette, slots and blackjack.
