After Macau and Singapore, experts believe Japan to be the next Asian country to open casinos of its own. It is not yet clear whether the casinos will be styled after Las Vegas, with its fancy roulette and craps tables, or “slots gaming rooms,” but since the topic of Japanese casinos remains on the theoretical level at this point, we can hope to find the great halls of the casinos full of roulette and blackjack gamblers.
Ichiro Tanioka, an expert from Osaka University of Commerce, said that Japan already has illegal gaming halls, containing mainly slots and pachinko machines. The Shantis, as the illegal casinos are known, make over $10 billion per year.
Since the 1940s, horse racing, national lottery and sports books have been legal in Japan.
During the last few years, research and surveys have been conducted finding that the Japanese people are interested in casinos of their own. Now, all that’s left to do is leave it to the government to try and get clearance for these casinos. Vegas, beware!
