Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, a subdivision of the University of Georgia, has quite a lot to offer its students, but this year, it offers them a few things that are a bit out of the ordinary. For one, this year's freshmen will have the opportunity to take a seminar course in the statistics of roulette and other gambling games, called “Lies, Damned Lies, and Probability: How to gamble if you must.” The seminar is considered a regular credit-based course, which students can take on a pass-fail basis.
The course teaches about probability and how it relates to everyday life, with an emphasis on games of chance, such as roulette. The purpose of the seminar is to to show the students the effects of statistics on everyday life, including roulette-style casino games. If students finds themselves in front of a roulette table, they might even be able to apply some of the statistical concepts they learned in “How to gamble if you must.”
