Class III gambling (under which table roulette is listed) is considered illegal in the state of Ohio. However, the Regulatory Gaming Act, which was written seventeen years ago, has allowed Indian tribes to run casinos on their lands up until recently.
Nonetheless, a Washington, D.C., U.S. District Court court recently found the National Indian Gaming Commission’s minimum internal control standards overseeing Class III gaming unlawful. Philip Hogan, chairman of the commission, has asked the Senate committee to clarify his commission’s authority to enforce Class III gaming regulations and standards.
No conclusion has yet been reached, so it will be some time until the fate of roulette in Ohio is determined. |
