A recent survey conducted by racy UK men's magazine “Nuts” found that most young men in the UK love gambling. Over 90 percent of males aged 18 to 35 have placed a bet at least once in their lives, and the majority tend to bet more than once a month. Sports betting is exceedingly popular, as are casino games such as poker and roulette. Phil Hilton, Nuts' editor, believes that the current situation can be accounted for by man's basic need for competition.
Some of the people surveyed confessed that their habits are influenced by celebrities. TV reality show actor Ashley Revell made international headlines when he sold all of his belongings and placed the money on a single spin at the roulette table, where the successful bet doubled his money.
The survey also found that eight percent of men prefer spending five pounds on various gambling games instead of a drink at the local pub. Two percent even admitted they would rather spend their money on betting instead of going on dates with women. |
