The Sporting Emporium, a new private members club in Dublin, celebrated its opening this week. The new casino, which hopes to attract 10,000 members within its first year, will have no upper limit on the bets players place on tables.
In addition, alcohol will be served free of charge to gamblers as they play roulette and other games. The club, which is not restricted to serving alcohol only until 23:00 like other UK establishments because of its “private members” status, will be open daily from 2pm to 6am.
Dermot Desmond, a financier who owns London City Airport, is investing €5.5 million in the club, which will also include a betting shop on the ground floor and employ approximately 85 staff members.
The casino will have 14 traditional card and poker tables, six roulette tables, eight blackjack tables, a banco table and a pai gow table.
