The Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted its sixth Annual Casino Night & Silent Auction, complete with Las Vegas style games such as roulette, blackjack, and poker. The evening was held to aid a local synagogue in raising money for future building projects and operations. Tickets for the casino night, which covered the roulette and other casino games, cost $30, and doors opened at 7:30pm.
Unlike California, where casino events held by nonprofit organizations are considered illegal and have resulted in warnings from the state Attorney General's office against planning charity poker or other Vegas-style fundraisers, the state of Indiana allows casino fundraisers with games such as roulette, craps, and poker. Charity gambling in Indiana is a a $500 million-a-year industry. |
