Yaakov Rafaeli, together with Lubar, the company for which he serves as CEO, has filed a lawsuit in the Tel Aviv District Court against online gaming software provider Playtech and three other defendants, one of which is Empire Online. Lubar has accused Playtech and the other defendants of patent infringement in connection with an online roulette system that could change the face of virtual gaming.
Until now, online gaming has been carried out through computer systems that virtually generated random numbers, which would determine the results of a move/spin. The claimant in the case holds that, instead, its technology has the gambling take place in a real casino, with a real, live operator. Accordingly, instead of having the roulette results be determined mathematically by a computer system, Lubar's technology reportedly determines results using an actual roulette wheel and ball.
According to Lubar and Rafaeli, the company already holds patents for this technology in the U.S. and Australia, with patents pending in other countries. The company aims to have its patents apply globally.
