The Casino Queen, a riverboat casino located in the proximity of downtown St. Louis, Illinois, has recently inked a deal for its acquisition by Columbia Sussex Corp. The 9-year-old casino boat, which offers traditional games, such as table games, roulette, and video game machines, is now waiting for the state Gaming Board's approval. The board will meet in the coming days to decide whether or not to allow the purchase.
If approved, the purchase would add an extra casino to Columbia Sussex's list of eight gaming venues and 83 hotels. The Kentucky-based company is also the leading candidate in the bid for Aztar Corp., which owns Tropicana casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
The proposed sale of the floating casino, comes as its owners are getting ready to begin the construction of a new land-based gaming complex instead of the floating gaming boat, as part of a multi-million casino and hotel expansion project. The new facility is designed to become the first on-land casino in the state.
