Venture into any online gambling forum, and you will see hordes of would-be gamblers talking feverishly about trends and complex patterns of numbers which, if you use them properly, will ensure your winning in any game from roulette to a coin toss.
There are two kinds of number oriented gamblers, even though they all follow the same basic premise. The Positives believe that three consecutive times in which the balls falls on black in the game of roulette to be a positive sign that red will indeed come up again. On the other side of the tracks are the non believers, who will react the opposite to a trend. If black has come up three times, then red must be the next choice.
Ironically, both of these “strategies” use the same sort of thinking, that each spin of the roulette wheel is somehow linked to the last, and that you can try to foresee the results of that will come up using the numbers or colors that came before. However, strictly speaking, each spin of the roulette wheel is completely independent from each other. |The game is built on this basic fact, otherwise the game of roulette would simply cease to exist. Of course, as in any other casino game, “belief” is an important poart of the fun, but you should never bet money on “belief.” This is true of traditional and online casinos, but especially in the latter case, where random number generators are in operation.
With some gamblers, the word “random” is almost a dirty word, undermining their so-called “know how” in matter concerning trends, and their limitless spreadsheets, theories, systems and any other thing that they can think about. In addition, some people livelihood depends on their knowledge of how to win. Those people write books about it. Obviously, no one likes to be made to look like a fool, so never tell any gambling author that his book on the definitive way to win at roulette is foolish. Just don’t buy it.
Perhaps we are wrong. Perhaps there is a higher Power that decides if you will have a lucky day or not. However, as the Creator moves in way that mere mortals do not understand, we have no choice but to deal with things we can understand. The casino tip the roulette scales in their favor by adding a zero or two, thus serving to occasionally add insult to injury in the case of both aforementioned groups of Believers and Non-Believers. Still, the old adage works here. Those who can, do, those who can’t… well, you know the rest. Don’t trust books on roulette systems. Feel free to gamble as you please, but using past events to help predict future events in games of chance becomes a serious commitment when money is involved.
You will notice when playing online roulette, for instance, that the results of previous 'spins' are posted on the screen. What are we supposed to do with this information, I wonder, if not use it to steer us in the right direction when making the next bet? I would suggest that following these past numbers should be for nothing more than adding to the entertainment, serving only to demonstrate the very unpredictability of random events. Eventually a pattern is sure to appear, of course, followed by another pattern, then another, then another...
