Salvation Army attacks Government-funded interactive website that introduces students to gambling. The Powerhouse Museum describes the project as educational since it teaches students mathematical principles behind gambling just as it teaches the social and economic cost. Children can try their luck playing roulette, lotto and poker and instead of being rewarded with money, they are rewarded with “bonus games”.
According to the museum's co-ordinator of education services, potential criticism is something that they foresaw, but gambling education is as important as sex and drug education. Gambling is ubiquitous and may be dangerous, but ignoring the subject is useless. Whoever thinks exposing the issue is encouraging it rather than addressing it better think again.
According to sources in the Salvation Army, the website should be reviewd in order to present a clearer message. The risks and the dangers at stake are not as stressed as the fun and ecitement element. Gambling even when simulated is a risk, because children can create their gambling principles and practice for real at home or even worse in school.
