The old plastic and fired clay chips are being replaced by the new generation of silicon chips.
Until now casinos had a difficult time tracking each player’s amount of bet in a game, not like Blackjack and Roulette. The RFID tag sends this data to the dealer’s pc keeping him updated at all time.
One of the RFID problems is its cost. Three years ago the price on each chip was $4.
Other previous problem was that the data reached the dealer’s pc a little bit late.
Progressive Gaming International, Las Vegas-based developer of gaming technology, invented the new RFID chip which is cheaper and faster. The new RFID chip cost $1.25 each.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas had begun using the new RFID chips last December. There are already ten tables using these new chips technology and the analysts say that this is the first main test of RFID chips at a large casino worldwide.
There are about a 100 casinos that still use the old RFID chips, analysts believe that most casinos will embrace this new tech chips very soon.
Progressive does not manufacture the whole chip, just the RFID tags for casino to tape onto their chips. The tag's size is smaller then a baby's fingertip.
Progressive had already started to work on there next project- a new system that reads playing card as they are dealt in card games.
