The St. Agnes School of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda held a fund raising event of roulette, craps and blackjack and managed to raise $5,000 for St. Agnes.
Nearly 150 adults attended the event; they paid an entrance fee and were given $45,000 in playing chips so they can enjoy two hours and thirty minutes of table games. People tried their luck playing roulette, blackjack and craps and when they ran out of “playing money” they were allowed to buy more chips and by doing so they contributed to the fund raising. At the end of the night, people traded their “chips” for vouchers which were used to bid in an auction.
Many participants won millions of dollars in play money. Several times during the evening, millions of dollars in play money were sold, for example, $5 million for $5 in real money.
