Recently, there has been an uproar spread by the GamCare, a gambling addiction charity that has linked a surging number of calls to its helpline to the popularization of roulette machines in the betting shops. The report issued by GamCare adds to the controversy surrounded by the brand new touch-screen machines (FOBTs) as their proceeds already reach 50% of the proceeds of some other betting chains. This contradicts a report, recently published by the Association of British Bookmakers (ABB) that found no evidence for roulette machines to be the underlying cause for inflammation in the gambling problem.
GamCare's chief executive, nevertheless, contended that the majority of calls they receive are from people who believe their problem has developed since the introduction of FOBTs.
